The History of Pilates
Formerly known as ‘Contrology’ until his death in 1907, Joseph Pilates created the method after practicing many training regimes in Germany.
He spent his youth strengthening and rehabilitating his own body after being diagnosed with Rickets as a boy.
By 14 his body was photographed and used in anatomy books. His method went on to used in concentration camps, rehabilitating soldiers.
Firstly performed on beds with springs, pilates has now been adapted to the mat, which is the programme my own classes are.
The Benefits …
The Pilates method creates a sequence of exercises to strengthen and lengthen the joints and muscles. Increasing your range of movement and flexibility as well as giving you a sense of body awareness and relaxation.
